about

Thijs studied instrumental performance and music composition at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, with the bass clarinet as main instrument, and experimental electronic music as main interest. Before this he studied biology and philosophy at the Vrije Universiteit, but after his master's degree in biology he decided to dedicate his life to the arts. In his exploration to combine his interests in nature and her laws and humans and their boundaries, he also studied fine arts at the Rietveld Academy for a couple of years and he founded The Walden Collective, an interdisciplinary collectieve which makes site responsive performances and installations where art, philosophy and science and their reciprocal influences are a central theme.

Over the last years, Thijs specialised in composing, arranging, sound design and music direction for theatre and film. Most of the time he works in theaters and studios in The Netherlands, Norway and Denmark with Eline Arbo as director, but he also works with other film and theatre directors. On a regular basis he performs himself live on stage with variable instruments and styles, depending on the concept and context of the performance.
